December was a mess – basically NOTHING was accomplished due to various injuries and such, so unfortunately I am behind on comics and drawings and writing back people and so on and so forth
BUT
HELLO 2013 , YEAR OF THE SNAKE – RACHEL FOSS IS READY FOR YOU
So over the weekend I quickly (and sloppily) drew this comic review of my year, for and to me and all my viewers out there, so you know where I am coming from and why I go the way I go and do what I do.
I certainly do go to the hospital a lot.
*Empty Bed will be back tomorrow morning and every Monday like before, as well as our other regularly scheduled programs
This week i spontaneously jumped the train to Boston (or, really Cambridge and Watertown…), to get away and clear my head. I wanted to take more pictures but it was pretty dreadful weather the whole time – I still had fun!
I am applying to be in an anthology out of Boston with the theme “The Greatest of All Time”
I chose the idea of My Greatest Bruise of All Time, about the summer I camped the U.P. and got a MASSIVE bruise from jumping off of the Black Rocks into Lake Superior. I honestly don’t think it was even the biggest or most badass looking bruise I ever received, but because I got as a result of conquering a fear it meant a lot more to me…
here’s the first sketches for the story – and yes for some reason when i draw myself quickly i end up looking like peppermint patty…
You get the general idea.
Whether or not i actually make it in to the anthology I am having a lot of fun drawing it AND its giving me a chance to use some of the techniques I’ve learned since moving here, for example, this technique I learned from Jason Lutes :) You can read those panels in any order and it still tells the same story – cool eh?
Early Saturday morning I hopped in a car with some great people and drove to Boston for the Massachusetts Independent Comic Expo (MICE) It was not only my first time in Boston, but it was my first time at a big comic event! AND IT WAS GREAT! A few of my favorite artists were there so it was it pretty terrif.
I also got to hang out with the talented Jesse Lonergan all weekend. He walked us around the historic city a little bit. I want to go again and be a real tourist and learn more about the city (luckily its only two hours away !)
It was such a great change of pace after being in a small small small town. I havent even been here two months and im already starting to get ancy!
