Last night a friend of mine gave me this poster – The DIY Manifesto
it’s awesome – everything i do and want to be
“So go ahead, build your Maginot Line of *** jobs, inflated gas prices, controlled schools and mass media. Throw America in that briar patch.
Where can we live? In straw-bale houses and abandoned building and big group houses in the neighborhoods you dont even notice.
What can we eat? Stuff we grow on rooftops, in backyards, in planters made of milk crates lined with one dollar shower curtains. And of course the leftovers from your dumpsters.
What can we wear? Your castoffs, stuff e swap amongst us, stuff we sew and cut down and spiff up and rework a hundred different ways.
How can we get around? By bikes everywhere, mass transit when we can, biodiesel cars where we must. With skateboards and scooters and plain ol’ walkin’. ”

Remember my last post, me gushing over R. Sikoryak and all? Well, likewise, i got to catch a little of Jason Lutes speak last night. Jason Lutes, aka cartooning babe-tron.
This is another example of a someone i see everyday, knowing hes a cartoonist, handing him coffee all the time, discussing Anton Checkhov with him, and all the while not knowing who he is or what he’s done and how fantasticly talented experienced and beautiful he and his work is.
Author of Berlin and Jar of Fools, i learned so much from him; hearing his process and what he’s learned working in the biz – and i could only stay for half of it!

I ACTUALLY started my book – the book ive been thinking about, and scribbling on napkins and receipts, for two years. the story that ive been writing my entire life.
I STARTED IT.
why now?
Because I wasn’t able to raise enough money for school. HOWEVER, i am still moving there, and I am not giving up, because… well because that’s just not in my makeup. If I fail, or if you tell me that I can’t, it just makes me want to do it more, and better for that matter…
