Take off Yo Shoes, Jump in the River

Mid-June.  Time for sloshing through puddles, wading in rivers, buying sun dresses, eating ice-cream outside, bike rides, picking daisies. It’s friday, it’s a good friday.  Time for a Playlist.

Welcome Back – The Moody Playlist

I express myself best through music.  Sometimes I like a song or a playlist because i just like the way it sounds.  But often it’s representaive of how im feeling; letting me express myself and speak how i feel through the art and poetry of others.

The Best Worst Thing

Its been cold and rainy the past 48 hours, but Saturday was beautiful, which is why this happened saturday morning:

Yes, this was a true story – he just REALLY wanted an early start to the day i guess… so obviously i was up at 6 am and began drawing this page!  I did all of this in one day AND had to go to work that day, which is pretty impressive for me.  Im glad to know that I can throw down a finished page in less than a day, even if it doesnt happen very often.

A fellow cartoonist also recently mentioned that i need more spot blacks in my comics, so this was a great opportunity to start practicing.  Spotting blacks is one of those things that, especially when you’re learning on your own, you dont notice until its pointed out.  That’s one of the great reasons for living here (or one of the ONLY reasons…), that even though im not in school, im learning so much from others by simply watching, having conversations and building relationships.

MELANIE GILMAN

Melanie really does not need a feature or my help throwing her name out there cause she has MAD SKILLS that get peoples attention all on their own

Melanie is about to graduate from the Center of Cartoon Studies here in White River Junction Vermont and she is without a doubt one of the best artists i have ever seen and have the pleasure to know.  She also makes amazingly delicious Vegan stew. Trust me.

She just started sharing her new project, As the Crow Flies – check it out, but beware, you’re going to get HOOKED.

HAPPY LEAP DAY EVERYONE!

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

I am excited to update today because I have been drawing LOTS!  My friend Andrew inspired me to focus on work again when we were talking about silly personal stuff:   “DID YOU COME HERE TO MAKE DRAMA, OR DID YOU COME HERE TO MAKE COMICS?!!”

Right on, bro.

AND ON THAT NOTE! –

I started working on HAIKU comics again!  I havent drawn any since before Christmas, but I’ve drawn three this week already, so I really want to keep that momentum going.

Here’s some clips:

All of my current Haiku comics are available at LE STORE

I want to keep drawing haikus until… well I guess until I don’t want to draw them anymore – so this particular mini will always be changing and updating.  Maybe I’ll make separate editions… WE SHALL SEE.

for now, check out all my crap available TODAY!

 Joseph Lambert

One of the advantages of being a part of the CCS community is having the privilege to meet talented artists and listen to people who have been doing it right.  Last week both of those came together as the first CCS Alumn lectured on his work.

Joe graduated from the Center for Cartoon Studies in 2008 and has received a lot of recognition for his work, including his anthology I Will Bite You

you NEED to check out his stuff, especialy if you’re an artist and you want to feel bad about yourself (but in a good way)

Melancholy Monday

It’s not often a feel this meloncholy, and certianly not on beautiful days like today

I know it’s supposed to be Much Love Monday, but you have to let yourself be sad once in a while, it’s good for you.

Just case any of you are feeling down this week, here’s a playlist to maybe make you feel good about feeling bad – after all, sometimes Sadness can be a Blessing :)

Rid-dit-dit-da-doo!

I’ve been a supertime slacker lately, but i still managed to re-draw two pages for the anthology i think its coming along :)

ive been super obsessed with these guys lately

New Year, New Life, New Me, New Drawings

I am applying to be in an anthology out of Boston with the theme “The Greatest of All Time”

I chose the idea of My Greatest Bruise of All Time, about the summer I camped the U.P. and got a MASSIVE bruise from jumping off of the Black Rocks into Lake Superior.  I honestly don’t think it was even the biggest or most badass looking bruise I ever received, but because I got as a result of conquering a fear it meant a lot more to me…

here’s the first sketches for the story – and yes for some reason when i draw myself quickly i end up looking like peppermint patty…

You get the general idea.

Whether or not i actually make it in to the anthology I am having a lot of fun drawing it AND its giving me a chance to use some of the techniques I’ve learned since moving here, for example, this technique I learned from Jason Lutes :)  You can read those panels in any order and it still tells the same story – cool eh?

Even though its lightly snowing right now, it is currently, and has been terribly drab and dreary here in Vermont.
